Tutorial allocation (Alloc8) - Sign-up instructions

How do I arrange my timetable?

All undergraduate subjects in the School of Culture and Communication use the Alloc8 system for tutorial allocation. This means that you will be automatically placed into a tutorial, and can access your timetable online.

Information about timetabling for Honours and postgraduate coursework students will be provided via email. Students enrolled in these programs should contact their subject's coordinator if they are unsure which sessions they should be attending.

How do I confirm my place in a tutorial?

You MUST access and print your timetable the week before semester begins to confirm your place.

Please note: most tutorials commence in Week 1.

If you need to make changes to your allocations, you may do so online at Alloc8. If you need to make changes once classes have begun, you need to contact:

Annemarie Levin
School of Culture and Communication General Office
Rm 216, West Tower
John Medley Building

Please note that you will need to have confirmed your subject enrolment in order to access this allocation process. If you have any queries about confirming your subject enrolment, please contact the Faculty of Arts Student Support Centre.

How do I access and print my personal timetable?

When you print your timetable, your place in the subjects and times shown is confirmed and there is nothing further that you need to do. You can print your timetable at any public access computer in the University.

What if I need to change my timetable?

You may edit your timetable by accessing the Alloc8 website.

If you have a legitimate need to change your timetable later, once classes have begun you must visit the School of Culture and Communication General Office to make the changes. Changes are possible only where there is a genuine need and available space. You are not able to attend a class you have not formally been allocated to.

How do I find out where my classes are held?

Class times and venues will be posted on School of Culture and Communication noticeboards. You can also find this information online on the Student Information System (SIS).

Please note: scheduled tutorials are subject to change, and some may not be available.

How do I access my timetable for subjects not on Alloc8?

Timetable and venue information for all University lectures can be found on the Student Information System (SIS). If you have enrolled in subjects offered by schools that do not use Alloc8 to place students in tutorials, you should contact the relevant department to sign up for classes.

What should I do if I have problems with my timetable?

You use the EDIT function on Alloc8 in the first instance. Sometimes this may not be successful if the class is full or if you have a clash. School of Culture and Communication staff are available if you have a problem with timetable clashes or with making changes.

Please note: preference for a certain class is not considered a valid reason for allocation changes.

Please note: it is your responsibility to ensure that you are correctly enrolled in your subjects and that all changes to your subject enrolment is done by the appropriate due date.

Do I have to attend all lectures, screenings (if relevant) and tutorials?

Once you have enrolled you are required to attend all lectures and tutorials, and submit all set assignments - it is not possible to pass a subject if you do not submit all required assessment. Many subjects make a certain level of attendance a hurdle requirement and if you do not meet this requirement, you may be excluded from examinations and submission of final assessment in the subject concerned. It is important, therefore, to keep informed of the requirements of each subject you undertake. Make sure that you obtain all programs, instructions and guidelines issued by staff.

Please check School of Culture and Communication noticeboards regularly for up-to-date information and class lists.
