School of Culture & Communication Cultural Studies

Cultural Studies PhD: Administration

Welcome

The School of Culture and Communication has a thriving postgraduate community with approximately 400 local and international students currently enrolled in its research Masters and PhD degrees. It offers supervision in a wide range of fields in English Literary Studies, Cultural Studies, Creative Writing, Creative Arts, Art History, Cinema Studies, Media and Communications, while also teaching postgraduate courses in Publishing and Communications, Art Curatorship, Arts Management, Cinema Management and Australian Indigenous Studies.

Postgraduate students play key roles in the intellectual life of the School, editing a range of postgraduate journals including antiTHESIS, emaj and Refractory; representing the postgraduate community on School committees; taking part in reading groups and seminar series, organising conferences; and so on.

The dynamism of this group can be glimpsed in Public Works, published annually by the School of Culture and Communication, which lists theses completed, works published, papers delivered, and creative works produced and performed by members of the postgraduate community.

The School's website should become your first point of reference for up-to-date information about postgraduate life here. You should also familiarise yourself with the Melbourne School of Graduate Research (MSGR), which provides important services for graduate students and which houses the University of Melbourne Postgraduate Association Inc (UMPA), a body specifically funded to serve and represent your interests.
