Last Updated: 12:01am GMT 18/03/2008

Food and Drink: Tried and Tested. This week, Hotel Chocolat's You Crack Me Up Extra Thick Easter Egg

  • Simple Simon's Perfect Pies | Harrod's Christmas hamper | Leaf tea travel kit
  • PRICE: £18

Hotel Chocolat - You Crack Me Up, Extra Thick Easter Egg
You Crack Me Up - decadent and delicious

WHERE: Order online at www.hotelchocolat.co.uk or visit stores throughout the country. See website for full location details.

THE BLURB: An extensive range of superb quality gourmet chocolate. Hotel Chocolat's style is classy but manages to be fun and innovative with it's range of products.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: A classy egg for grown-ups. Sophisticated black and yellow packaging reveals some seriously thick chocolate eggs with little packages of individual chocolates nestled temptingly inside. Decadent in the extreme.

THE TASTE TEST: Put quite simply - yum! This is a whole solar system away from second rate chocolate eggs. One of the shells - which are super thick - is a fusion of milk and white chocolate. Not too sugary and melt in the mouth delicious. The individual chocolate pralines inside are also super cute and generously portioned.

PROS: Unwrapping this egg is pure delight - it's just beautiful to look at. Perfect for a stylish gift if you want to impress.

CONS: Would have preferred more pralines and less Easter chick chocolate casts in the chocolate selection.

VALUE FOR MONEY: This is a luxurious and stylish gift. The £18 price seems quite reaonsable considering the quality of the chocolate. There's plenty of it too.

    VERDICT: 4.5/5
