How Much is Too Much Information?

According to the woman at the Attorney General's office, no, you are not entitled to that information. It is logical that you would want that before a potential tenant moved into your apartment, in order to check their credit history and financial status. However, if they are already in the apartment, then you have to just settle with a cell phone number AND an alternate phone number. (Cell phone numbers have this funny way of getting cut off). This alternate number can just be their home number.

Julie Klausner and Sue Galloway, Writers and Performers, Free to Be Friends

Julie Klausner: I grew up watching The Magic Garden with Carole and Paula on WPIX, which was a regional show from the tri-state area, and listening to the Free To Be ... You and Me album over and over again. I thought it would be a funny genre to send up, plus, the whole look of the show was a lot of fun. Wide leg pants and mushrooms and the like.

The Hungry Cabbie Eats The Outer Boroughs: Tom's Diner

If every building in New York City was to somehow be wiped off the face of the earth, and I had the power to pick only one to remain standing, I would choose Tom’s Diner in a heartbeat. Though I think of the Chrysler Building like a part of my own body, I would have to let it go. I get chills every time I catch a glimpse of Yankee Stadium, but I would bid it a premature farewell. Tom’s Diner, on Washington Avenue and Sterling Place in Prospect Heights, has taken hold of my soul like no other place in New York.

Cube Chalkers Are Squares, Had No Smack, Only Chalk

Incase you missed it, yesterday we ran a post about a standoff at the Alamo between a group of kids with chalk and the cops. The story was pretty simple: Saturday afternoon a number of kids decided it would be fun to chalk up Tony Rosenthal's recently returned sculpture the Alamo, often referred to as simply the Cube. The kids, some of whom apparently had just finished their SATs, chalked away to their hearts content and were joined in by passersby. All was merry untill the police showed up and started arresting the chalkers and then some of the folks who were chanting in support of the chalkers (see Adam's photo above).

The Boss is The Boss of Us

Fact: Thunder Road is the greatest song penned by an American songwriter in the last 30 years. This is an unarguable, unassailable, unquestionable truth. If you don't believe us, check out the giant three-disc reissue of Born to Run that Columbia Records put out last week. Even McSweeney's loves Bruce Springsteen!
