R&B singer RIHANNA has been named an honourary cultural ambassador to her native Barbados.
The Umbrella star was awarded the honour by the island’s Prime Minister, David Thompson, at a rally held on Thursday (21Feb08).
And Rihanna will be rewarded by the Barbadian government for her cultural efforts - she is set to be given a plot of land in the exclusive Apes Hill area of St James parish as a thank you.

Actress/singer JESSICA SIMPSON was left red-faced after struggling to find enough money to pay a parking valet in Hollywood.
The star was dining with friends, including celebrity hair stylist Ken Paves, in posh eaterie Katsuya on Thursday (21Feb08) when she was caught short of cash.
After getting into a waiting car, a grinning Simpson searched in her handbag for over two minutes, before eventually finding a pile of notes and handing them to Paves, who was driving the vehicle.
Paves handed over the money to the waiting valet, who was eventually rewarded with the crumpled wad of cash.

Former glamour model HEATHER MILLS is set to be crowned one of the world’s sexiest women in a new poll.
Mills has shocked bosses at British magazine FHM by racking up more than 1,000 votes a day in their online poll to name the world’s 100 most attractive females.

SIR ELTON JOHN’S partner DAVID FURNISH is set to re-release ELTON JOHN: TANTRUMS AND TIARAS - because he is desperate to air the as-yet-unseen footage.
The Canadian moviemaker took around 140 hours of film for the 1996 documentary on the British singer, and is keen to show the public more behind-the-scenes shots of John’s life.
He says, "We’re re-releasing it, because there are 140 hours of footage, most of which we didn’t show." And Furnish adds the experience was the most nerve-wracking project he has ever worked on, despite being in a relationship with the film’s subject: "It was one of the most difficult things I ever did, my hands were shaking the whole time I was filming."

SYLVESTER STALLONE’S latest movie offering RAMBO has been snubbed by British cinema giant Odeon - after it vowed not to show the film on any of the chain’s screens.
The movie chain announced on Friday (22Feb07) it would not be showing Stallone’s action movie, the fourth film about musclebound war veteran John Rambo, disappointing fans in the U.K.
Odeon insists the decision was made due to "commercial reasons" - but reports attribute the rare move to an alleged feud between the cinema chain and distributors Sony.
An Odeon spokesman says, "Owing to commercial reasons, Odeon has made the decision not to screen the film Rambo across its cinemas in the UK."

Kind-hearted actress CATHERINE ZETA-JONES made a surprise trip to her native homeland Wales - to celebrate her grandmother’s 91st birthday.
The Mask Of Zorro star flew on a private jet from her luxurious house in Bermuda to Zeta-Jones’ modest home in Ravenhill, Swansea.
The Oscar-winning actress took her stage name - Zeta - from her grandmother, who was named after a boat her great-grandfather once sailed in.

But Nash is terrified someone will pilfer her personal tome and reveal her innermost thoughts.

The BEE GEES star ROBIN GIBB has teamed up with a little known Russian pop star to re-record disco classic STAYIN’ ALIVE.
Russian Valerieya wrote to the singer last year (07), enclosing a copy of her cover of the 1978 classic - and Gibb was so impressed with her talents, he vowed to work with the star and raise her profile in western Europe.
Valerieya has sold more than 100 million albums in eastern Europe - but she is still yet to succeed in the rest of the world.
She says, "I sent Robin a letter explaining how hard it was for us to get Western music growing up behind the iron curtain (Communist states in Eastern Europe). But I loved the Bee Gees." Gibb says, "She’s Russia’s top artist and really good."

LATEST: PARAMORE frontwoman HAYLEY WILLIAMS has dismissed reports the band is to split - despite cancelling the remainder of their European tour over "internal issues".
The 19-year-old singer posted a message, signed by all four band members, on her blog on Thursday (21Feb08) announcing the group needed to take time off to work out their personal problems. But Williams has since updated her blog, insisting her comments were taken out of proportion.
She writes, "Since we posted the last entry, we’ve gotten tons of phone calls and people posting things on Web sites saying that we are breaking up. I just want to make it clear, though… we weren’t saying the band was over. We posted because we are going through hard times and we felt that because we have a really good support system in you guys, our fans, it would be better for us to just be honest about what’s going on - even though it was a pretty vague explanation." And the flame-haired star has refuted allegations the tour cancellation was caused by her falling pregnant.
Williams adds, "Man, some of the rumors that I’ve heard going around are insane! It’s weird how out of hand things can get even when you just try to tell a simple truth (for the record, my Eggo is not preggo). Anyway, we just need to take time to make this band the best it can be… and we are doing that now." A spokesperson for Atlantic Records has confirmed Paramore are still scheduled to tour with Jimmy Eat World in April (08) in the U.S.

LATEST: Troubled star BRITNEY SPEARS will soon be reunited with her children despite the singer failing to have her visitation rights reinstated earlier this week (ends24Feb08).
The Toxic hitmaker was stripped of her visitation rights to sons Sean Preston, two, and Jayden James, one, last month (Jan08) after a breakdown at her Beverly Hills, California home at the end of a scheduled visit.
At a hearing in Los Angeles on Tuesday (19Feb08), a judge refused to change Spears’ current access levels to her kids - but the pair have now come to an agreement, allowing the singer to visit her children.
Following the failed appeal, Federline was insistent he wanted the situation resolved so the couple’s children could be reunited with their mother as soon as possible. And Mark Vincent Kaplan, Federline’s lawyer, is now adamant the singer will be granted access to her children "very soon", but did not disclose details of the agreement.
He added both parents were pleased a deal had been reached.
Federline was awarded primary custody of the children in October last year (07), and had sole custody of the tots following Spear’s breakdown in January (08).

CHARLIE SHEEN’s fiancee BROOKE MUELLER has blasted the judge who allowed DENISE RICHARDS to include her future stepdaughters in a new TV show.
Sheen took his ex to court over her reality TV plans, insisting the former Bond girl shouldn’t be allowed to "exploit" his children in public.
But a Los Angeles judge ignored his protests and allowed Richards - as the young girls’ mum - to make up her own mind about what was good for her daughters.

PAMELA ANDERSON has relaunched her website with a tribute to actress-turned-animal activist BRIGITTE BARDOT.
After killing her previous website last month (Jan08), the former Baywatch babe has launched PamelaChannel.com, where she’ll post regular journals about her colourful life.
And in the first message, posted on Friday (22Feb08), Anderson coos about meeting Bardot during a recent trip to France.
Bardot used the meeting to ask Anderson to help her ban seal hunting in her native Canada.
The retired French actress also asked Anderson to represent her in her annual press conference at her animal rights charity foundation’s headquarters under the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
In the post, Anderson recalls, "It was an amazing crowd - full of sympathy I saw tears (even papperazzi) (sic) when I played footage of the baby seals being beaten and sometimes skinned alive in this barbaric cash bonus for the fisheries.
"Brigitte Bardot called me on speaker phone at (the) press conference expressing her gratitude for all the work I do for animals. She called me her `daughter,’ `a continuation of her’. I almost fell over…
"She is an inspiration and I thank her again and again for everything she’s done."

SNOOP DOGG is in trouble with the law again after cops caught him in possession of marijuana in New York.
The rapper was cited for marijuana possession on Wednesday night (20Feb08), but not arrested.
Police reportedly caught Snoop with the drug outside a Manhattan, New York nightclub.
The rap star’s lawyer Donald Etra says, "We are contesting the ticket." The controversy is the latest in a long line of legal run-ins for Snoop - his most recent charge, for carrying a collapsible baton in his carry-on luggage at a California airport in 2006, landed him with a community service sentence and three years of probation.

LATEST: The legal battle between LINDSAY LOHAN and the motorist who claimed she ploughed into him after dining at Los Angeles restaurant The Ivy has been settled.
Raymundo Ortega launched a suit against the actress last summer (Jun08), claiming Lohan had been drinking at the trendy restaurant minutes before she collided with him on Robertson Boulevard in October, 2005.
Ortega’s claims conflicted with police reports, which suggested he was to blame for the car crash.
