Martin Webb's Webblog, Telegraph Your business

The Daily Telegraph is a vocal supporter of entrepreneurship and is keen to do whatever it can to help new business ideas get off the ground.

To help in those difficult early days, Your Business has created Launchpad, a free virtual ideas and marketing exchange where entrepreneurs can tell the world about their new enterprise. Simply email up to 100 words stating when your business opened its doors, all about your idea, about yourself and why you think it will be a success. Send your entry to yourbusiness@telegraph.co.uk.

It will be a good idea to include your website so people reading your entry can get in contact if they are interested. Please feel free to link to Your Business from your own site so customers and suppliers can read your entry in Britain's biggest circulation quality daily newspaper. We will post as many as we can and we will shortly introduce a popularity index, so Your Business readers can indicate which of the new businesses ideas they like best.

Please note Launchpad is only open to businesses that are about to start trading or have been trading for less than three months.

  • Customers owe you money? Employees causing friction? The time you spend try to resolve these issues is time you should be using to grow your business and make more profit. You could pay lawyers to sort everything out, but be prepared for potentially hefty bills.

The better option is to use mediation to sort out disputes. It's cost-effective, fast and you maintain control. Our business serves SMEs like yours and because we have minimal overheads, we're able to offer a very competitive price for our services. Our experience in both business and mediation could be just what you need.

  • I had the idea for Girls Who Garden after coming in from my own garden after a frustrating day continually losing my fork and trowel amongst the undergrowth and feeling achey, tired and grubby!

I thought a more colourful approach to gardening together with a luxurious range of "apres garden" products would be just the thing!

I have put together a pretty pastel coloured range of gardening tools and accessories and matched them with a range of colour co-ordinated natural bath and relaxing products, which can be gift wrapped to make a fabulous gift for any gardening girl. My website went live just before Christmas and I had a really good response.

  • We all prefer to work with people we know and like. Viveur is a new business networking club launching on the 25th January, 2008. We organise exclusive monthly events that give you the opportunity to forge new business relationships and have fun at the same time.

The idea of directors, Zoe Browne and Peter Robson, the concept is straightforward; through great events and an online networking club you simply get to know people in a more inspiring, stimulating way which can only be good for business!

  • UsedBlackCountry.co.uk is a website, started in December 2007, and offers free classified ads for the people of the Black Country. It is free for both buyers and sellers to use, and that includes ads with up to 4 pictures. The Black Country was identified in my market research as having the right size of population and lack of competition, and when it is thriving I intend to expand to other regions. The site is easy to use, does not require registration and is, and always will be, free to use.

  • The Mediator brand comprises a magazine and directory serving the emerging mediation profession and its growing pool of users. Mediators perform a critical function in society, enabling and empowering potential litigants to resolve matters for themselves without going to court.

Over 80pc of mediations result in settlement, be they governments suing defence contractors, or neighbours locked in boundary disputes.

With around 3,000 accredited mediators in the UK and no form of regulation, parties need to be able to distinguish the good from the bad. The Mediator directory is the only forum where parties can select an appropriate mediator based on clear user feedback.

  • Trumblies is the name of our new young children's picture book series. The first book is available now and the theme of these lovable, fun, music note-shaped characters will continue with soft toys, birthday cards and other Trumblies products.

The books with their colours, easy sentences and actions are ideal for reading with toddlers or early readers. These appealing stories about musical characters fill a need to introduce musical ideas to young children at a time when they are being encouraged to learn a musical instrument at school.

Find the first book on www.trumblies.com or order it from any good bookshop. Further books and other Trumblies products will be available in the New Year.

    Trading began in October 2007.

Well done Matthew for your mediator directory. The Scottish Mediation Network has recently established benchmark standards and a register for those who comply. Potential clients can access the register to choose a mediator with the necessary training, CPD and experience for their needs.

Not exactly a going business. I can win the automotive x-prize (several million)for a 100 mpg, 4-seat automobile that is attractive and affordable. It involves modifying an existing vehicle to use electrical energy without batteries. I need to collaborate with an automotive manufacturer, as the rules require ability to produce 10,000 in one year.

This is a good initiative but I think the forum idea could go further to allow experienced people to contribute but also network - so they givr advice but may also find people to collaborate with.

For instance, I have a good set of skills which I am using on my sheet music website www.greatscores.com but there are areas such as web 2.0/social and viral marketing that I could do with help on.

It's great to see so many new business ideas out there. If any of those start-ups have a specific question related to starting their own business, they can go to the Small Business Advice Service (www.smallbusinessadvice.org.uk) - a free and independent source of tailored information and advice for entrepreneurs, owner managers and the self-employed who are starting or running a business.

There are lots of great new start-up's out there and the one common denominator they all have is low initial market awareness. Any initiative to promote these must be warmly applauded. Finally I'd like to mention Businessplanuk a new website which can help entrepreneurs with their business planning.

    Hello,

I just wanted to say this is a great idea for new businesses - who could do with all the promotion they can get!

I help run a website for new businesses called This Is Your Business, which I'm sure will also help others in their dreams.
