Western Digital offers a competitive and flexible benefits package which provides an allowance that can be used to select your choice of the following benefits options. Eligibility for benefits begins the first day of employment so there's no delay in coverage for you or your family.

Medical Plan Options
Eligibility begins the first day of employment.
Blue Cross Choice PPO Plan – These plans feature a $15 in-network office visit co-payment. There is a choice of $250 deductible with 90% reimbursement of eligible expenses from preferred providers or a $750 deductible with 80% reimbursement of eligible expenses from preferred providers. These options differ in bi-weekly cost, annual maximum out-of-pocket limit and deductible.

Blue Cross Choice High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) – Western Digital offers a Health Savings Account (HSA) qualified High Deductible Health Plan

Health Maintenance Organizations - These require copayments but no deductible:

  • CA: Kaiser, Aetna
  • TX: Aetna

Dental Plan Options
Eligibility begins the first day of employment.
Delta Dental: this indemnity plan covers 100% preventative services provided by a DPO dentist, and 60% major services, to a $1,500 maximum per plan year. Fifty dollar deductible applies. Covers 50% orthodontic services up to $1,000 lifetime coverage.

Aetna DMO (CA only): this dental health maintenance organization requires co-payments and use of Aetna DMO dentists, but no deductible.

Vision Service Plan
Eligibility begins the first day of employment.
The plan provides a standard eye exam and lenses annually, frames every 12 months for children under age 16, and every 24 months for those over age 16. A $20 deductible applies. Contact lens benefits are provided in lieu of other vision benefits.

Long-Term Disability Plan
Eligibility begins the first day of employment.
Choose coverage for 40% or 60% income continuance. Benefits begin after 90 days total disability.

Employee life Insurance
Eligibility begins the first day of employment.
Select coverage of $10,000, $50,000, $100,000, $150,000, $200,000, $250,000, $300,000, $350,000, $400,000, $450,000, $500,000, $550,000, $600,000, $650,000, $700,000, $750,000, $800,000, $850,000, $900,000, $950,000, $1,000,000. Amounts over $400,000 require approval.

Dependent Life Insurance
Eligibility begins the first day of employment.
This plan provides coverage for spouses at $25,000, $50,000, $100,000* or $300,000* and/or $5,000 or $10,000 per child. *Requires approval.

Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance
Eligibility begins the first day of employment.
Select coverage of 1x, 2x, or 3x pay for self; family coverage is available as a percentage of the employee's coverage. $1,000,000 maximum benefit.

Domestic Partner Coverage
Same-gender registered domestic partners and the domestic partner's eligible dependent children can enroll in medical, dental, and vision plans on a full-cost, after-tax basis. This coverage is not through Flexible Benefits.

Health Care Reimbursement
Eligibility begins the first day of employment.
Contribute pre-tax from $100 up to $5,000 annually to pay for eligible health care expenses.

Dependent Care Reimbursement
Eligibility begins the first day of employment.
Contribute pre-tax from $100 up to $5,000 annually to pay for eligible day care expenses.

Holidays
Eligibility begins the first day of employment.
Western Digital provides 8 paid standard holidays each year, in addition to vacation.

Vacations
Eligibility begins the first day of employment.
Vacation can be used as it accrues monthly and if there is a positive balance. Caps are 280 hrs. for those with less than 9 yrs. of service, 360 hrs. for those with 9 yrs. or more.
0 until 4th anniversary: 104 hours a year.
4th until 9th anniversary: 144 hours a year.
9th until 14th anniversary: 176 hours a year.
14th anniversary and onwards: 216 hours a year.

There is also a Vacation Sell Plan that allows you to sell up to 80 hours. This election can only be made during open enrollment (election effective January 1).


Sick Leave
Non-exempt and hourly employees are eligible after 90 days of employment.
The benefit is 48 hours of sick time per year; unused sick time rolls over to the next year. Exempt employees are paid up to 5 work days per illness.

Employee Assistance Program
Eligibility begins the first day of employment.
This is a no-cost short-term counseling and referral service for employees and their dependents.

Short-Term Disability
Eligible after 90 days of continuous employment.
Benefit payment begins on the 8th day of disability and continues up to day 90 of the disability. Employees receive 60% of their weekly earnings during the 90 days of disability.

Educational Reimbursement Program
A WD employee may be eligible for educational assistance after 90 day of continuous employment, according to WD Guidelines and pending pre-approval by management. If approved, Western Digital reimburses up to $5,250 in education expenses per calendar year.

Retirement Savings and Profit Sharing Plan
Eligibility begins the first day of employment and you are automatically enrolled at a before-tax contribution rate of 3% of pay.
Retirement Savings: Eligible upon hire.

  • Employee contributions of 1% to 30%.
  • Pre-tax, after-tax, and catch-up contributions.
  • 50% company match on employee's first $4,000 of contributions to amaximum of $2,000 per year.
  • Match vests 20% per year until 100% after 5 years.
  • 13 investment funds, retirement date funds, Western Digital company stock, and a self-directed brokerage window.
  • Daily valuation and changes.
  • Loans and hardship withdrawals available.
