The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bath is actively developing methods and systems for measurement assisted assembly of large scale/complex structures, in partnership with major aerospace companies. The Laboratory for the Integration of Measurement with Assembly has state-of-the-art metrology facilities and co-ordinates a number of research and development projects, working closely with UK’s aerospace and power generation industry.

A major project is being developed with a leading UK aerospace company in the area of measurement assisted assembly. The primary requirement is good understanding of dimensional metrology techniques that will be utilised to support a range of large volume metrology tasks. Good understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing would be a key advantage. Also required are skills and experience in mechanical assembly and aspects of process automation. The holder of the post should be able to manage his/her own work and also manage their interface with the industrial partners of the project. It is envisaged that the majority of the time will be spend in industrial premises.

Applicants should have a good, relevant first degree in Engineering or Physics and skills directly relevant to the requirements of the post gained from either 2 years industrial experience (preferred) or suitable academic qualifications and professional courses.
