SKILLING, David - Edmonton Before enlisting he had been involved in the 16th Light Horse. David enlisted in the 51st Ops Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force in Edmonton June 12, 1915 at age 33. As stated in his letters to Canada Private David Skilling #437345 was: 1916 driver in Composite Company, Canadian Corps Headquarters BEF France; 1917 Driver 4th Div Headquarters, France; 1917 Driver 2nd Div Laundry, CEF France. He was discharged 31 August 1918 in Winnipeg, after 3 years and 79 days of service, (he had served 28 months in France) private, honourable discharge. He was deemed medically unfit for further war service. Received 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal. |
