Electronic Books

Because the Home Of Heroes website is SO LARGE, we have tried to compile many stories into mini-websites within our website.  Such series as our Pearl Harbor Tribute, The Brotherhood of Soldiers at War, Go For Broke, A Splendid Little War and our new Wings of Valor series reach almost book-length proportions.  Formatting them as web pages allows us to use special effects (watermarked backgrounds, embedded midi files, java scripting, animations, etc.) that make web surfing more interesting.  These same features however, do not print well for those who wish a printed version of these stories.

At the request of numerous visitors for more printer-friendly versions of these series, we have opened a HomeOfHeroes.com BOOKSHELF.  On the bookshelves you will find full-color, attractive books containing the same information found in these series...but prepared in an easy to print ADOBE .pdf or Microsoft®WORD® format.  Each BOOK will take a little longer to download than the individual web pages, but in a single download you can find the entire text and graphic files of several web pages.  When printed, they can be quickly and easily bound to make an attractive book.  Because we offer them FREE OF CHARGE, your only cost for a full-color historical book is the cost of your paper, ink and binding.  You can build a great library from these pages.

We encourage you to try our first electronic book, DAY OF INFAMY.  Once you see how economical it is to print such a book, we further encourage you to print several copies to share with friends, schools, clubs and libraries.  You may print and distribute these in any quantity you wish, provided that you make them available to others as freely as we make them available to you.

The Book Shelf

Some of these are rather large books.  Go For Broke is nearly 100 printed pages and The Brotherhood of Soldiers at War is 115 Pages.  A Splendid Little War is 199 pages, which requires TWO .pdf files.  For this reason these files may take as long as 30 minutes to download.  Please be patient...they are worth the wait.  Because they open in a separate window, you can continue to surf the internet while they are downloading.

We provide you two options in downloading, either as a Microsoft®Word® file  or a .PDF FILE (which requires Adobe Acrobat Reader which can be downloaded free online if you don't have it on your computer).

The  MS WORD®2000® version is recommended
if you have WORD®2000® on your computer.

All of these books were created in Microsoft ®WORD®2000®If your computer has  WORD®2000®, we RECOMMEND downloading the WORD version instead of the .pdf file.   Once downloaded, simply do a SAVE AS like you would do for any new file you have created, and the document will be on your own computer so you can print multiple copies of each book.

Download & Printing Instructions

FOR WORD® FILES:
When you click on the WORD® icon to open one of our books, the file will automatically start downloading.  When it is finished downloading (15 minutes to half and hour on most computers, it will open in WORD® just like any other WORD® file you might create yourself.  Once it opens, you can either print it, or save it to your hard drive for printing later.  Once it is on your hard drive, you will have it for future printings as well.

FOR .PDF FILES:

STEP 1:  If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer, first download a FREE copy of this important software by clicking on the icon below  (Adobe Acrobat Reader is a helpful tool for many HomeOfHeroes.com printable features, as well as special forms and pages in many other websites.)

adobe_link.gif (1692 bytes)

STEP 2:  When Adobe Acrobat Reader is installed on your computer, the electronic book files will open when you click on the hyperlink to the book you want.  (Because these files are larger than a typical web page, it may take several minutes before you see the file on your monitor.)

STEP 3:  You can print the opened electronic book simply by clicking the PRINT icon on the Adobe Acrobat Reader tool bar.  The pages are in REVERSE ORDER, so they will be collated by the time the printing is done.  If you only want ONE copy of the book, that is your best option.  If you plan to print more than one copy, or to reprint in the future, you can save the file to disk and open it without download delay as many times as you wish.  To download the opened Adobe .pdf file to disk, click on the SAVE icon (circled in red), then choose the destination where you wish to save the file.

Bind Your Book
You can staple your electronic book for an economical binding, or use a 3-hole punch to assemble in in a 3-ring notebook.  For only a dollar or two you can have a professional looking comb or spiral binding placed on your book at many print shops (Office Max, PIP, etc.).

E-Books

Our E-books are slightly different from the books listed above.  The books from this bookshelf contain the STORIES you read and enjoy from our website, compiled in an attractive book format.  The E-Books are primarily individual web pages you can print ONE-PAGE-AT-A-TIME and then compile.

These are normally not narrative stories, but compilations of individuals or pages (like our US Presidents E-Book or our Medal of Honor Coloring Book.  Each page opens in your browser, which means you don't need any special programs (i.e. MS Word or Adobe Acrobat Reader) to view and/or print them.  Below is a series of links to some of these books that are currently available.
