Constitutional history: Jordan was created 1921 from part of former Ottoman Empire, and administered as a British Mandate under authority of the League of Nations until 1946. King Hussein terminated special treaty relations with Britain and expelled British forces in 1956. Jordan annexed the West Bank as a result of the 1948 Arab-Israeli war, and lost it to Israel in the 1967 war. Jordan is not a member of the Commonwealth.
