The "Canadian Irish Regimental" tartan was designed for The Irish Regiment of Canada and first introduced for field officers in 1928. In 1933 The Irish Regiment of Canada became the only kilted Irish regiment in the world by Canadian General Order No. 94.

The tartan is sometimes mistaken for Ulster.
