Aim and scope

This section is dedicated to the lineages of British regiments since the reorganisations of the reserve forces in 1967. Several rounds of reorganisations have obscured the identities of familiar units of the Territorial Force and Territorial Army which fought in the world wars. We present here detailed lineages and chronologies of all volunteer and territorial units in an effort to clarify the complexities of recent decades and to keep alive the memory of disappeared units.

To access the regimental lineages, use one or more of these options:

Volunteer Regiments, 1969
Alphabetic Index of Titles
Volunteer Regiments, 1995
Numeric Index of Titles
Volunteer Regiments, 1999
Overview of Title Changes
Inf Brigades 1948-1967
Royal Armoured Corps
Inf Divisions 1968-present
Royal Artillery

This work first appeared on the Technische Universiteit Eindhoven web site, where it can still be seen in its original form.

Acknowledgments

The information presented here originates from a great many sources, and, in fact, my only contribution was putting it all together. The bibliography lists the most important publications used for this compilation. Furthermore, information supplied by several regiments also proved most useful, as well as the contributions from visitors of this site. I am much indebted for the informative and constructive contributions of several people. In particular I would mention Dr. Graham Watson for his kind supply of notes and knowledge on the artillery and support corps, Todd Mills (founder and webmaster of this site and longtime aficionado of lineages), and Ben Waterhouse for his fruitful discussions on the Honourable Artillery Company.

Some gaps and missing pieces remain, and by means of this web-site I hope to contact people who can fill-in some details. If you can give any information on the units listed below, please contact me, Wienand Drenth. I will be most grateful for your contribution.
