Guiding Light - News Briefs

Gina Tognoni (Dinah, GL) and Joseph Chairello
— PGP

2007

NOVEMBER 28
Gina Tognoni (Dinah, GL) announced her engagement to longtime boyfriend Joseph Chairello on-air during the CBS broadcast of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

"I'm just thrilled," the actress gushed. Check out the 12/18 issue of Digest to see what else Tognoni had to say about the big news and to find out which matchmaking GL castmate introduced the couple!

Daniel Cosgrove (Bill, GL)
— PGP

NOVEMBER 12
GL viewers finally got a glimpse of Daniel Cosgrove, who officially returned to Springfield as Bill on Tuesday, November 13. Now that Bill's stint as head of Lewis Construction in Venezuela is over (thanks to getting canned by his pop, Bill), what will the younger Lewis do with all of his free time back in town? Telling Digest about his first episode, Cosgrove teased, "This one is crazy."

George Alvarez (Father Ray, GL)
JPI

OCTOBER 3
Good-bye Reverend Ruthledge, hello Father Ray! George Alvarez returns to GUIDING LIGHT's Springfield on October 15. Father Ray was last seen on-screen for the "Jammy" wedding back in January.

Frank Dicopoulos (Frank, GL)
JPI

SEPTEMBER 20
Frank Dicopoulos's (Frank) daughter, Olivia, has been tapped to play Matt and Vanessa's "tween" daughter Maureen, who was last seen on-screen as a baby. Her first airdate is October 16. Bill, Vanessa's son with Billy, is also set to return as Digest reported in our August 28 issue. Viewers can expect to see Daniel Cosgrove reprise the role some time in November. Specific air dates have not yet been set.

Marj Dusay (Alexandra, GL)
— PGP

SEPTEMBER 10
As Digest reported in our September 11 issue, GL's Marj Dusay (Alexandra) injured her ankle at home, but it's certainly not slowed down the soap vet, who's been appearing on-screen in a motorized scooter. Here's an update from the actress: "It's healing very nicely. They tell me it's healing great. I've been to physical therapy. I probably get a little ankle brace next week, but all seems to be going as good as possible so I'm pleased." And what's it like getting around on that scooter? "They let me almost knock down sets a number of times [laughs]! But I'm learning. I call it my little Jaguar. I'm enjoying it."

David Andrew Macdonald (Edmund, GL)
— PGP

SEPTEMBER 5
As Digest told you in the August 28 issue, David Andrew Macdonald is returning to GUIDING LIGHT as San Cristobel’s former prince, Edmund Winslow. Now we have new info: The actor's first air date is October 24. Stay tuned for more news on when another comeback kid, Daniel Cosgrove, hits the screen as Bill.

Lawrence Saint-Victor (Remy)
— PGP

AUGUST 31
Wedding bells are ringing for GL’s Lawrence Saint-Victor (Remy) who is set to wed his fiancée Shay Flake on Saturday at a golf resort in Garrison, New York. "The place kind of decorates itself. It's got that old kind of flavor with tons of personality so you don't have to do that much to it," the actor shares. "It's a [morning to afternoon] wedding so the sunlight is out. It's going to be nice and bright."

Among the 140 guests expected to attend are co-stars Yvonna Wright (Mel) and John Driscoll (Coop). "Everything's down to the wire!" says the groom-to-be. The newlyweds will celebrate their weeklong honeymoon in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. "I can't wait," he adds.

Grant Aleksander (ex-Phillip, GL)
— PGP

AUGUST 28
Alan's favorite son, Phillip (last played by Grant Aleksander in 2004) was mentioned no less than three times on Monday's episode of GUIDING LIGHT. Can viewers expect to see the Spaulding scion, who is presumed dead, return to Springfield to shake things up? There are "no plans to bring him back at this time," a Show rep tells Digest. Still, with the recent surprise announcement (airdates still unknown) that Danny Cosgrove (Bill) and David Andrew Macdonald (Edmund) are returning to the canvas, anything seems possible.

Marj Dusay (Alexandra, GL)
— PGP

AUGUST 27
GUIDING LIGHT fans have wondered if Marj Dusay really hurt her foot since the August 13 episode when it was revealed that Alex fell over Lizzie's dog, Roxy, and had broken her ankle. Yes, Dusay does have a real-life injury: GL wrote in the hurt ankle after the star tripped at home.

Tom Pelphrey (Jonathan, GL)
— PGP

SEPTEMBER 18
GUIDING LIGHT fans will be able to "find their light" at bookstores and online retailers starting Sept. 18, when Pocket Books releases Jonathan's Story. The book will fill in the gaps of story taking place on-air while updating readers on what brooding antihero Jonathan has been up to since he visited Reva in Springfield last month. Jonathan's Story retails at $21.

— CBS

SEPTEMBER 5
GUIDING LIGHT recently wrapped a location shoot in central New Jersey to tape scenes involving an upcoming flashback sequence set in the south of France.

The show paid $800 for the rights to shoot at the Somerset County-owned, 490-acre Natirar Estate, which once belonged to the King of Morocco. The episode will reportedly take viewers back five years into Cyrus' past and explore his backstory with Dinah. The episode will air Sept. 5.

Crystal Chappell (Olivia, GL)
JPI

AUGUST 21
GL's Crystal Chappell (Olivia) will be sticking around Springfield. In a statement to fans on her official Web site message board (www.ccandfriends.com), the actress writes, "I am so happy to be staying on GUIDING LIGHT for another year. They are my family and hopefully, Olivia will find her own light. Regardless of how some people feel about Olivia, I have always appreciated all the fans of the show." Chappell joined GL in 1999.

Vanessa Simmons
— PGP

AUGUST 21
Vanessa Simmons, star of the MTV hit RUN'S HOUSE and daughter of former Run-DMC front man Joseph "Rev Run" Simmons, will appear on GUIDING LIGHT as Lola, a woman with an eye for Remy beginning on Tuesday, August 21. She auditioned for GL on season three, episode nine of RUN'S HOUSE, “Times Are Changin,’” which aired in June.
