GUIDING LIGHT Interviews

GUIDING LIGHT(ing) Up the Emmys

JORDAN CLARKE (BILLY)
Outstanding Supporting Actor
On whether he believed he had the award in the bag:
"I did, actually. They actually wrote the scenes to help Danny Cosgrove (ex-Bill) get off, because he was doing a prime-time series. It was kind of a fluke. The stuff was written well, and it was something I could relate to. I've had a lot of trouble in the past, and to be able to pull [from] some of that is great."

On working with Maeve Kinkead (Vanessa) again:
"We had so much fun. I still think she's great. We did a fantasy sequence in the show that was all about Reva. I gave her a kiss and it was still there. Our wives and husbands don't pay any mind. They let us get away with it."

Kim Zimmer (Reva)
— Lisa Rose/JPI

KIM ZIMMER (REVA)
Outstanding Lead Actress
On the first Daytime Emmy Awards from Los Angeles:
"This is what we were laughing about last night with all the L.A. actors: They want to go back to New York, because they have so much fun. Their shows shut down for the week and they come to New York and party for a week. Well, now the tables are turned and we get to do that. They're working on us to take it back to New York, and we're like, 'No, we can stay here!'"

On her last Emmy win:
"I don't remember a whole lot about it, but I remember I was wearing an ugly dress. I think I've done better now, but maybe not."

On her favorite GL episodes:
"How can you ask me that question? I was cloned, I time-traveled through a painting. I was stuck on a desert island with a hunky island man — that is what it actually referred to him as. I have [had] all kinds of stories. They've thrown everything at me and, this past year, I did change-of-life, when Reva thought she was pregnant but was really in menopause. Now I'm going into another storyline that's going to challenge me and my ability to keep it together."

Gina Tognoni (Dinah)
— Jill Johnson/JPI

GINA TOGNONI (DINAH)
Outstanding Supporting Actress
On her speech:
"I winged it, definitely, because I didn't expect to win. I know I'll look at it and be very surprised. There's such a special love right now at GUIDING LIGHT. We are so proud of our head writer, David Kreizman. Our executive producer works so hard, Ellen Wheeler. It's an honor. This is my first nomination. I'm just flying high."

On Tony Geary (LUKE, GENERAL HOSPITAL), who presented her award:
"I love him. I was so focused on him coming up the stairs. The first thing I said to him was, 'I love your work.' He is a hero to me. He said some very nice things about my reel before this evening and that was lovely, to have that sort of confidence."

On her dress:
"I am such a fan of PROJECT RUNWAY. Kara Janx designed this and cut me a dress about three weeks ago. She is phenomenal. It was an honor to have her want to dress me and to have her sweetness added to it. I feel comfortable, and violet is my favorite color, so it's perfect. I'm wearing my grandmother's ring. It was my good luck charm tonight."

On the future of GL:
"We're in the midst of a great change, a show that had to make some different decisions. I see GUIDING LIGHT on the air for a long time. In fact, this coming January we'll be turning 70 years old. We're the longest-running soap. I don't believe we're going anywhere. Changes are necessary to restructure and get stronger. We certainly are getting on the map tonight!"

Tom Pelphrey (Jonathan)
— Brian Lowe/JPI

TOM PELPHREY (JONATHAN, GL)
Outstanding Younger Actor
On working with "mom" Kim Zimmer:
"Kim's the best, and working with someone as talented as that just raises the stakes. Every time you're doing a scene, she's always giving you 110 [percent] and then it makes you step your game up. When you get a partner like that, you can't ask for anything better."

On his wooden wallet chain:
"Mike Graziadei (Daniel, THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS), who was nominated in my category as well, was wearing this when we were up at Foxwoods [casino in Connecticut]. I said, 'Mike, that's awesome. It's great,' and he just took it off and gave it to me. I needed a new wallet anyway, so I went out to the mall, bought a chain wallet and then popped the end off and attached it. I love it. It kind of makes me feel like a priest, though I'm the last person that's going to pass for that. I wear it because of Mike and because it's cool."
