W. S. George Pottery 1915 - Ohio signed by William Shaw George as President

Beautifully printed certificate from the W. S. George Pottery dated 1915. This historic document has an ornate border around it with a vignette of an eagle. This item has the hand signatures of the Company’s President ( W. S. George ) and Secretary ( R. N. Logan ). The certificate was issued to W. S. George for 250 shares and signed by him on the back. This is the first time we have seen this certificate.

In 1904, William Shaw George ( 1865 - 1925 ) purchased a pottery company in East Palestine, Ohio that he had previously leased from the Sebring Brothers. The W. S. George Pottery Company manufactured semi porcelain dinnerware as well as toilet and hotel wares.

In 1910, the company opened a plant in Canonsburg, and another in Kittaning, Pennsylvania in 1914. The W. S. George Pottery Company remained in operation for nearly 60 years.

In its peak, the W. S. George Pottery turned out eight hundred thousand dozen pieces of dinnerware per year. Eighty-nine women and one hundred forty-four men were employed. Clay used was brought from various parts of the United States, particularly from the southern states.
