Certificate Vignette
In 1986, Arvin Industries, Inc. acquired Maremont Corporation. From 1953 until 1977, Maremont manufactured friction products, including brake linings and lined brake shoes. Maremont sold its friction product business to Nuturn Corporation in 1977, nine years before being acquired by Arvin. Maremont first became a defendant in a product liability suit based on exposure to asbestos in 1977, and continues to be named in asbestos-related personal injury claims even though it hasn't been in the friction products business for more than 20 years. Although Maremont has been named in these cases, in the cases where actual injury has been alleged, very few claimants have established that a Maremont product caused their injuries
