Certificate Vignette
During 1925-35, changes in road and traffic conditions altered the development path of automobile suspension systems. Cadillac improved the ride quality of its cars by reducing the un-sprung weight. John Warren Watson, a manufacturer of "stabilators," said: "Although springs are almost entirely responsible for the way a car rides, the control mechanism determines what kind of springs can be used." He suggested that the two be designed in a unison systems approach.
