American Academy of Dramatic Arts signed by founder Franklin Haven Sargent - New York 1909

Beautifully engraved RARE certificate from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts issued in 1909. This historic document was printed by the Broun-Green Company and has an ornate border around it with a vignette of 2 allegorical women with an image of the sun setting behind mountains between them. This item is hand signed by the Company's President ( Franklin Haven Sargent ) and its Treasurer and is over 97 years old. The American Academy of Dramatic Arts was chartered by the Regents of the University of the State of New York as a private corporation.

The American Academy of Dramatic Arts is the oldest organization for the training of actors in English-speaking countries. Founded in 1884 by Franklin Haven Sargent the academy is located in New York City with a recently founded branch in Pasadena, California (1974). The courses do not just include stage work but television and film as well. Former students include Anne Bancroft, Kirk Douglas, Ruth Gordon, Agnes Moorehead and Spencer Tracy.
