Epicoccum

Easily recognized by its nearly spherical spores (conidia) that are several-celled and strongly roughened. The conidia are usually produced in dense masses from clustered conidiophores (sporodochia). The colonies are usually some shade of red, orange, or yellow. Very common on dead or dying plants and frequently isolated from the air. Holomorph unknown. Ref: Schol-Schwarz 1959
