This Just In...Afternoon Delight— By Jennifer Lenhart
A small number of astute readers have noticed that every AS THE WORLD TURNS synopsis I write has a "theme" based around an actor or author or whatever I'm into in that particular week, reflected in the subheads and caption (and almost entirely for my own amusement). The one in the 9/11 issue was in recognition of my eager anticipation of the Foo Fighters' Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace, which was released later that month, so the subheads were all songs from that CD including "Long Road To Ruin" (above a passage explaining how Dusty woke up from a drug-induced blackout, only to be arrested for Cheri the madam's murder). Imagine my delight when the video for that song turned out to be a soap spoof dreamed up by Foo frontman Dave Grohl (a.k.a. awesomely melodramatic soap star-turned-rock star "Davy Grolton" in the clip) and featuring Rashida Jones from THE OFFICE. It's directed by Jesse Peretz, who did the videos for "Big Me" (the Mentos commercial parody), plus "Learn To Fly" and "Low" (both starring Jack Black; the latter notoriously banned by MTV). This is one is just as hilarious, and this being Soap Opera Digest, we had to give it a special place on our Web site. (I only wish they'd asked for a mock-up Digest cover instead of Teenage Treats, the magazine featured, because we totally would have provided it!) Watch it here, then go to www.foofighters.com or www.myspace.com/foofighters for more on the band that has inspired many of my ATWT themes over the years. Click HERE to watch the video!
