BIOGRAPHY
In retrospect, it seems fitting that David Andrew Macdonald hails from Washington, D.C. His political acumen and fervor for debates are often mentioned by colleagues as some of his more endearing traits. Of course, this isn't to say that Macdonald is all business and academia. He may have an extensive vocabulary, but never takes himself too seriously.

Life for young Macdonald wasn't confined to the nation's capital. The youngest child of three and the only boy, he struggled with school early on due to a learning disability. Once diagnosed, Macdonald thrived and finished high school at a private school in New England. He made his acting debut as a ninth grader in a school play and went on to study theater Colorado College. At 26, he was accepted into Juilliard's drama program.

After graduation, he plunged into the New York and regional theater scene. He landed bit parts on television to pay the bills, but nixed any contract roles in soaps in order to pursue his first love, theater. During a stage gig, he befriended ANOTHER WORLD's casting director, who in 1998 convinced him that he was the only one who could pull off the role of Jordan Stark, a 221-year-old mad scientist. In April, 1999, AW's cancellation was announced and GL came knocking later that month after hearing that the actor could do a British accent. He was hired for a summer stint as San Cristobel's dark prince. In October, 1999, the show put Macdonald on contract.

As for Macdonald's personal life, his mother pressured him to meet his sister's new nanny, Nicolette, in the summer of 1993. After a whirlwind and long-distance courtship, they married a year-and-a-half later. Before kids, Nicolette penned a few plays for Macdonald's acting troupe, About Face Theater Company. Today, the family of four lives in suburban New Jersey.

MEMORABLE QUOTES
"I have no pressing need to be a star. My whole thing is that I would like to start a family and educate my children if my wife and I are lucky enough to have them." — Soap Opera Digest, 3/16/99

"[I had philosophers like Descartes and Kant] sticking out of my jacket pocket just enough so people could see I was reading them. Please! What a Philistine!" — Soap Opera Weekly, 6/15/99

"Does that mean I should never play Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Earnest? She's a great character. With enough research, I should be able to play her, if you're thinking theoretically. I'd be a 6-foot-3, 220-pound gigantic Lady Bracknell, coming in like a frigate in the harbor. It would be a blast. But at some point I might say, 'You know, there are plenty of women who could do a better job at this more quickly than I could.'" Digest, 8/15/00
