How to Make a Crochet Starting Chain

Step 1: The photo above illustrates how to make the first circle in making a loop. (You can wrap it around your finger to make this circle.) Note that you should leave a length of about 6 inches or so on the other side of the circle (this will be left hanging as you crochet and will be woven in when you are finished crocheting the piece.) Weaving in this length is a good way to secure the end so that it will not unravel over time.
