Shells and Waves Pattern Instructions

Materials:
Sport Weight Yarn with a G or H hook or Worsted Weight Yarn with an H or I hook. Red scarf was crocheted with TLC Wiggles sport yarn and a US Size H hook (width is 5 inches). Caron Simply Soft Tweed, color white, a worsted weight yarn, was used to crochet the rows shown in one of the smaller photos.

Scarf Width: About 5 inches, depending on materials used. Scarves come in many different widths so it's fine for this to vary. Gauge is not important for this project.

Abbreviations:
ch = chain, dc = double crochet, ea = each, sc = single crochet

Starting Chain: Chain 17.
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in ea ch across. (16 sc)
Row 2: ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in same sc, * skip next 2 sc, 4 dc in next sc **, repeat the directions between * and ** 3 more times, then skip next 2 sc, 2 dc in last sc.
Row 3: ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in same dc, * skip next dc, dc in ea of next 3 dc **, repeat the directions between * and ** 3 more times, then skip next 2 dc, 2 dc in last dc. (16 dc)
Row 4: ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in same dc, * skip next 2 dc, 4 dc in next dc **, repeat the directions between * and ** 3 more times, then skip next 2 dc, 2 dc in last dc.
Repeat Rows: Repeat rows 3 and 4 for pattern, as many times as needed for the length that you desire (48 inches is an average scarf length; the currently popular super long scarves are about 95 inches in length).
Next To Last Row: Repeat Row 3.
Last Row: ch 1 to turn, sc in ea dc across the row. (16 sc)
