Nigerian car crash claims 17 lives
Sat, 15 Dec 2007 23:05:06
At least 17 people are burned to death in a multiple accident when four vehicles burst into flames in a crash in south-west Nigeria.

Police said Saturday that the accident involved three vehicles that smashed an oncoming truck that was carrying cartons of beer on the Ife-Ibadan road and defected to the other side of the road as a result of bad road on Thursday night.

According to an eye witness the accident involved a trailer loaded with drinks, a commercial Peugeot 504 station wagon, a Mitsubishi truck and a BMW car.

It was noted also that fire prevented the combined team of police, Federal Road Safety Corps and men of fire services from saving the lives of those that were trapped in the accident.
