India, Pakistan to discuss IPI pipeline
Thu, 15 Nov 2007 05:25:14
India's Petroleum Minister Murli Deora
India has decided to hold talks with Pakistan to remove hurdles facing its joining in Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline project.

India seeks a meeting with Pakistan to resolve transportation tariffs, transit fees and other issues relating to a pipeline from Iran to India via Pakistan.

India's Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora urged the necessity for a meeting between New Delhi and Islamabad to make decision on transit fee, transportation tariff and pricing formula. "We are finalizing the dates for a meeting between India and Pakistan," he said.

Iran, India and Pakistan held tripartite negotiations over the multi-billion-dollar pipeline project until recently but New Delhi's dilly-dallying pushed Tehran and Islamabad to continue talks bilaterally.

India blamed its difference with Pakistan over transit fee and pricing formula for its skipping of tripartite negotiations over the pipeline which is to transfer Iranian gas to the two energy-starved countries.
