Lavrov warns against threatening Iran
Thu, 15 Nov 2007 04:33:28
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has warned against threatening Iran over the nation's nuclear program.

"If we state everywhere that the independence of Kosovo is inevitable, Iran will inevitably be punished, we will not achieve anything," he cautioned.

"The situation will only escalate if threatening statements are made," Lavrov was quoted by Interfax as saying during a meeting with Slovenian counterpart in Ljubljana.

Russian FM earlier stressed that Moscow would stand against unilateral actions against Iran's nuclear program.

Lavrov said Russia would only back 'collective legal solutions' regarding Iran's nuclear program, the Conventional Armed Forces in Europe Treaty, the US missile defense system and the issue of Kosovo.

Russian minister hailed Tehran's cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency during last week visit to Iran.
