Schafer may coach Iran soccer team
Thu, 15 Nov 2007 02:31:15
Winfried Schafer
Former Cameroon coach Winfried Schafer may steer Iran's national soccer team as the national federation is seeking a European coach.

"Frenchman Jacques Santini, Dutchman Dick Advocaat and German Winfried Schafer are the main candidates and Schafer is the most serious one," a source told Fars news agency on the condition of anonymity.

Meanwhile, the online 'kicker' quoted Schafer as saying "If all preconditions are right, I'd go there (Iran)."

"That would be interesting and a good thing. Iran has a good team. If everything fits I'll accept the job. I know the Iranian football during my time in Dubai and I follow the Bundesliga where some Iranians play," he said.

Born in 1950, Schafer was the former manager of Vfb Stuttgart, Karlsruhe SC and Al Ahli of the United Arab Emirates.
