Following police intervention in Georgia's politicial unrest, Russia has condemned the country for exercising wanton force against Georgian protesters.
Calling on the international community to raise a voice of protest against Georgia's head of state, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mikhail Kamynin said, "We are convinced the world community, major human rights bodies ... the United Nations, the Council of Europe and the OSCE should urge officials in Tbilisi to stop violence."
The statements were made with reference to wounding of 360 people by the Georgian police who had used rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse angry protesters.
The spokesperson held Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili to blame for the violence and violation of human rights and asked him "to resolve the country's internal political issues constitutionally, without the use of force".
Saakashvili earlier had accused Russia of having used espionage operations to spark off the protest. He called a state of emergency on Wednesday after a weak of opposition protests came to a head.
