Thu, 08 Nov 2007 22:36:42
Abdul-Aziz Hakim, Leader of the SIIC
The Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council has confirmed that the nine Iranians who were kidnapped by US troops in Iraq will be released soon.

The Head of the SIIC office in Tehran, Majed Ghamaz, in an interview with the IRIB said that "in addition to Iraqi government officials, Abdul-Aziz Hakim - who heads the SIIC - made all-out efforts to secure the release of the kidnapped Iranians.”

The nine that are to be released include two of the five diplomats that were kidnapped from Iran's consulate in the city of Irbil in January.

The SIIC added that a definite time for the release of the Iranians has not yet been set.

Ghamaz also said that the Iraqi powerful party supports further talks between Iran and the US on Iraq's security.
