Mandela denies meddling in Zimbabwe
Tue, 06 Nov 2007 21:44:44
Former South African President Nelson Mandela has denied reports that he suggested Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe step down.

Mandela's spokeswoman Zelda le Grange repudiated the reports saying the former South African head of state no longer assumes any political responsibilities.

Local media reported that Mandela had told Mugabe, under pressure from some Western countries, to quit in order to avoid prosecution.

Some Western countries, including Britain, accuse the Zimbabwean President of human rights abuses.
