Laporta: Rijkaard secure at Nou Camp
Sat, 15 Dec 2007 21:07:01
Barcelona manager Frank Rijkaard
Barcelona president Joan Laporta says Rijkaard can stay at Barca as long as he wants, rejecting rumors that he will be booted out soon.

Coach Frank Rijkaard, who has led the Catalan giants to back-to-back league titles, has come under fire for his team's failure to get results in away games this season.

Regarding the issue Laporta said, "Rijkaard has a contract and will be at Barcelona until he wants to go. He is our coach and he has our full confidence."

"Here, if we're to enjoy the best moments then we need to show support during the bad times. That's how we've done things since he joined, and that's what we'll continue to do," the club president told As on Saturday.

Laporta's remarks came after the Dutchman said he intends to remain at Nou Camp until his contract ends despite increased criticism at his team's away performance.

Rijkaard will be closely watched in the upcoming days as Barcelona will face a tricky away match against Valencia on Saturday. The Catalan favorites will host arch-rivals and league leader Real Madrid in Nou Camp in the following weekend.
