Brain conditions common in elderly

A new study by Dutch physicians reveals that while brain abnormalities are common in the elderly they seldom cause serious problems.
The findings show brain tumors and blood clots in the vessels, as life threatening as they are, often cause minimal symptoms.
According to the study, one out of every 60 person above 55 has a brain problem they are unaware of.
“It's very scary to learn there's something wrong in your head,” said Dr. Aad van der Lugt, an associate professor in radiology at Erasmus MC University Medical Center in Rotterdam.
Today, the increasing number of brain scans performed worldwide, have raised the chances of diagnosing such abnormalities faster. However, physicians do not recommend routine MRIs to look for brain problems.
