A geologist has found ancient tree stumps dating back to a thousand years before the end of the ice age north of Vancouver, Canada.
Johannes Koch said on Wednesday that he had found fresh-looking intact tree stumps beside retreating glaciers in Garibaldi Provincial Park.
According to Koch, radiocarbon tests confirmed it dates back to a few thousand years before the end of the ice age.
Koch said the wood is in pristine condition, since the stumps spent all of the last seven millennia under tens of hundreds of meters of ice.
He added that the glacier had been released from its icy tomb due to the changes in the region's climate.
