Children should not use cell phones
Wed, 31 Oct 2007 18:22:46
The scientific review of 11 articles reveals that using cell phones for 10 years or longer doubles the risk of auditory nerve tumors.

According to the article published in Occupational Environmental Medicine, this risk is higher in younger children as they have thinner skulls.

A previous study in 2004 had also found a four times higher risk of acoustic neuroma (a tumor on the auditory nerve) on the side of the head where the phone was most frequently held.

Other side effects reported for cell phone use in previous studies include cell membrane damage, decreased intracellular communication and increased deposits of heavy metals into cells, producing free radicals and fatigue.

Researchers are calling for more studies into cell phone safety, including their potential links to Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.

The following are some tips by Dr Mercola on decreasing these vast risks:

-Do not let the kids use cell phones or severely limit their use

-Use a non-Blue Tooth headset. While Blue Tooth is certainly safer than no headset at all, it still broadcasts information-carrying radio waves into the brain at a lower intensity than cell phones.

-Using speaker phone and keeping the phone about two feet away from any body part, is also recommended.

-When not using the phone, it should be kept far away from the body. Cell phones should not be kept in the pocket as the radiation penetrates the body wherever the phone is attached.
