INTRODUCTION:
ONCE UPON A TIME, approximately a decade or so, (if I wasn't watching anything related to NICK, CARTOON NETWORK/TOOAMI [pre-2002 - present], FOX KIDS, OR KIDSWB!), there was always a plethora of Disney Movies in my collection to watch. Who didn't watch "The Lion King" or "Little Mermaid" religously when they were kids? Disney movies back in the day were something to awe at -- even if you were blissfully unaware of critics or the public-body disagreements --, they were full of adventure, music (now nerve grating and irritatingly-annoying to a point) and Romance seemingly fitting for teen/adult Romanic-genre film, because nowadays I honestly don't see the point of putting romance in films when kids really didn't understand beyond its abstract meaning. I continued to watch them, even the older ones that came out before I was even born.
HOWEVER, the older I got the more mundane and incredibly idiotic these movies seemed to me to the point where "God, Why did I watch this?" came to mind. The sugarcoated, muscial-campiness, practically nonviolent, life-lesson in morality in the films lost its appeal to me. By the year 2000, I frowned at the sight of them. The aspect of Disney Movies being for the child-audience didn't occur to me; To me they were just "movies."
Even the 2003 release of "Pirates Of The Caribbean: Curse of The Black Pearl" didn't fully convince me. Basically because I thought they would sugarcoat it and leave it virtually nonviolent, the Pirates would be punkish dudes with jolly grins on their faces, singing songs. Despite the presence of Orlando Bloom, Johnny Depp, [and once-newbie, "Phantom Menace"/"Bend it Like Beckham" familiar] Kira Knightly, the PG-13 rating and the awfully convincing TV spots displaying skeletal Pirates. Of course when I saw it, tried to hate it, I found myself entertained and I gave Disney praise for showing a darker and realistic side in their first PG-13 movie. Of course it didn't rate as a "excellent movie" to me until the 2006 release of "Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," where Disney pushes this popular now-series, with excellent characters (Davy Jones; The Kraken) and plot twists that will leave your mouth gaping at the end (though I can't say Jack did 'the right thing'. He faced his enemy knowing there way no way out. He didn't exactly have a choice). What little faith I had in Disney was renewed with their endeavor into their most famous Ride-Attraction. Lucky Them, eh? Let's hope "At World's End" is any good.
So all in all, this just proves while Disney Movies are considered "Memorable Classics," to the general public, such a title doesn't really matter. The older you get, the more you'll realize things that once made smile and overexcited, aren't as interesting. They loose their glamour and glitz. Their just be another memory you either look upon fondly or cringe at the very remembrance of it.
HEADING: Hello, and Welcome my first and only "SO YOU'D LIKE TO. . ." Guide to the best and worst of Walt Disney's/Pixar's impressive list of Animated/Live Action Features that made them so rich in the first place and themsome. (This is of course, minus the majority of Direct-To-Video Sequels to their older movies, for I do not consider them cannon.) A Majority believe Disney lost its power by the rise of the new millennium - the year 2000, when Y2K didn't end the world (rolls eyes). For me that's true. The last great movie that they made was indeed the 1999 release of "Tarzan," the rest trailing after it was downright horrible or passible, but that's my opinion. All movies will be listed according its timeline and according rank. I know most people sooner jump off a building than agree with whatever I have on this list, but I hope you find this list helpful regardless. FYI: If Your wondering where the Films produced by STUIDO GHIBLI(?), famous for films like "Spirited Away" and "Howl's Moving Castle", are, you'll have to check out my "Momentary II" List. ---- January 4th, 2007. ---Signed the girl who can't spell Liam "Neeson"'s last name until third try.
