The village of Aniuysk
The village of Aniuysk is located on the Maly Aniuy river and borders upon the Republic of Sakha (yakutia). The population is 625 villagers, 28 are unemployed (as of March 01, 2003). The village has a municipal institution of the pre-school and secondary education “Nursery - Daycare Center - School), a food store, a post-office, a cultural center, utilities enterprise, a hospital and a pharmacy. The main occupations of the villagers are fur animal hunting and fishing. Reindeer herding declined in the period of economic crisis. Restoration of reindeer herding in Aniuysk is possible on the basis of the number of reindeers remained.
The village of Ostrovnoye
The village of Ostrovnoye is located on the Maly Aniuy river, in about 70 km up along the current from Aniuysk and in 125 km from Bilibino. The population is 416 people, 339 of them are native. The village is the historical center of the Bilibinsky raion and that was the location of the Aniuysky burg famous for its trade-fair that attracted reindeer herders and coastal villagers from all over the area and even from the neighboring Yakutia. The village has a municipal institution of the pre-school and secondary education “The Ostrovnovskaya School”. Construction of the sport complex and a store combined with a bakery is planned in the future. The main occupations are reindeer herding, fishing, hunting, collection of berries and mushrooms.
