The village of Egvekinot

   The town of Egvekinot is the administrative center of the Iultinsky raion. It is situated on the eastern coast of the Ervykynnot Bay (Ervygynnot means “sharp and hard land” in the Chukchi language) of the Krest Bay surrounded by mountains. It was established in 1946 as a sea port and a supplies base of the Iultin ore mining and processing enterprise. The population (by the data of March 01, 2003) is 1925 people. 89 people (as of March 01, 2003) are unemployed.
   Egvekinot is a sea port and a good transport point. The town has a high school, a daycare center, a boarding school, a center of continuous education.

          The village of Oziorny

  T  he village of Oziorny is located in 13 km from Egvekinot. The population is 650 villagers. Oziorny is the village of power engineering specialists as in 1952 a diesel power plant was constructed here and it provided power for the Iultin enterprise. In 1960s the base of the Mainypyntyvaam geological survey expedition moved here and that’s why until 1990s Oziorny was also the village of geolosists, the majority of whom are gone because the Iultin Mining and Processing Enterprise and the Eastern Chukotka Geological Survey Expedition were cancelled. The village has a high school, a post-office and a food store.

          The village of Amguema

  The village of Amguema is situated on the 91st kilometer of the Egvekinot-Iultin route on the right bank of the AMguema river. The population is 548 villagers, 387 of them are native and the Chukchis are 379. 10 people are unemployed (as of March 01, 2003).
   The village is equipped with utilities and services. There are a food store, a post-office, a high school/boarding school, a daycare center, a bakery. The majority of the population are reindeer herders (84 people work in tundra).

          The village of Konergino

  The village of Konergino (Keniergyn means “a curved valley” in the Chukchi language) is located on the eastern coast of the Krest Bay, on the Erulia spit of the Kengynin Bay. This is a large village populated mostly by Chukchis whose main occupation is reindeer herding. They are 559. 56 people are unemployed (as of March 01, 2003).
  Konergino has a high school, a cultural center, a daycare center, a food store.

 The village of Uelkal

  Uelkal is the Eskimo village situated in 100 km to the south from Egvekinot at the entrance to the Krest Bay. The population is 258 villagers, 202 of them are native. 21 villagers are unemployed (as of March 01, 2003).
  The village has a high school, a first aid post, a pharmacy, a post-office, a food store. The main occupation of the villagers is marine mammal hunt.
