Murder, Las Vegas Style: Ted Binion

Rick Tabish and Sandy Murphy were arrested for the murder of Lonnie "Ted" Binion. When former Horseshoe Casino boss Lonnie "Ted" Binion, 55, was found dead on September 17, 1998 in his Las Vegas home with an empty Xanax bottle by his side and heroin paraphernalia in the bathroom, it looked like an accidental overdose. His live-in girlfriend, 26-year-old former stripper Sandy Murphy, who found the body, said he had been despondent since losing his gaming license, due to alleged ties with organized crime. Suspicions were aroused, however, when Binion's friend and business associate, Rick Tabish, and two other men were arrested while emptying Binion's vault. Toxicology reports released two weeks after Binion's death showed he had lethal amounts of both Xanax and heroin in his system. The death has been ruled a homicide and is under investigation. The likely suspects are Tabish and Murphy, who are rumored to have been having an affair. A housekeeper says Sandy Murphy, instructed her not to come to work the morning of September 17th, and Binion instructed his attorney to remove Murphy from his will the day before he died. Phone records show that Tabish placed a call to Sandy Murphy's cell phone minutes before she called police to report the death.
