Diagonal V-Stitch Line Afghan - Free Crochet Pattern I wanted to design a diagonal square of some sort so I started on one corner and made it up as I went along. This is the result. The photo on the right shows four squares joined in one possible arrangement. The individual squares have a corner start, worked from one corner to the other corner, in double crochet and v-stitches.

The bat shape is added in cross-stitch on the finished single crochet front of the head band.

Snowflakes are relatively quick crochet projects and make wonderful small gifts and decorations for the Holidays. There are many free patterns for snowflakes on the Internet. At the following link, you can see a list of free patterns for snowflakes, where the examples were crocheted with thread, along with a few ideas for uses of crocheted snowflake decorations.
For crocheters who prefer to work with yarn, instead of thread, I've also compiled a list of links to snowflake theme free crochet patterns, where the pattern example is crocheted with yarn. This scarf is a variation of the solid shell stitch. The center has the look of a row of circles with fan shapes along the two edges. I gave the scarf an extra touch of bright color, using a multicolor of yellow and orange for the single crochet rows.

This square can be a nice, small project while also helping to learn a new crochet stitch combination. If you haven't tried the star filet stitch, this pattern could be just right for giving it a quick try.
I worked out these square directions to accompany my photo tutorial for the star filet stitch (a combination of filet crochet and the star stitch).
