Three Huguenot families of this name went to England from Northern France in 1628 to settle near the marshes (fens) of the Yorkshire/Lincolnshire border (Isle of Axholme). Including the families of BOS, BRADT, CAUDEBEC, COMSTOCK, CORSA, CORSEN, CRAY, CUVILJE, DAMEN, DECKER, DECOURSEY, DEFOREST, DEPUY, HOOGES, HELMICK, KIP, LENT, MONTAGNE, OBLINIS, PROVOOST, RAPALJE, ROSENKRANS, ROOSA, RYCKEN, SCHOONMAKER, VANAKEN, VANGORDEN, VERBRUGGE, VERMILYEA, VIGNE, VOLKERTSEN." Became master silk weavers in London where records of them can be found at Threadneedle Street. This surname also at Canterbury, Kent c1685.
