Average Pay, Ambitious Leader

Presidents' pay is, in a word, disparate. Some rake it in. Others scrape by. Then there's Arthur F. Kirk Jr., president of Saint Leo University, near Tampa, Fla. His $269,755 annual compensation falls near the median for private-college presidents.
