Northern Marianas College

Hafa Adai! Northern Marianas College invites you to visit its website, its campuses, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. We have served our community proudly since 1981 and offer a variety of programs to support the educational, employment and personal goals of the people of the Northern Marianas and the Asian Pacific region.

The main campus of Northern Marianas College (NMC) is located on the Pacific island of Saipan, the capital of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). Saipan is located 120 miles north of the US territory of Guam and approximately 6,000 miles southwest of the continental United States. Japan, China, and Korea are within 1,500 to 2,000 miles from the CNMI, all with direct air links to Saipan. NMC has satellite campuses located on the neighboring islands of Tinian and Rota.

The setting for Northern Marianas College is a rapidly changing, dynamic multi-lingual, multi-ethnic community that has grown from a resident population of under 17,000 in 1980 to well over 70,000 today. Over the past fifteen years, the population served by the College has come to expect an increasingly higher standard of living due to the Commonwealth's expanding economy that has benefited from its political affiliation with the US, its tropical climate, and its proximity to prospering Asian economies.

NMC offers degrees and certificates in liberal arts, business, teacher education, criminal justice, nursing, and much more. After graduation, our students go on to mainland colleges or into teaching, business, vocational, and community service jobs. To meet the growing regional need for postsecondary education, NMC offers distance education through online learning and video teleconference technologies.

Since 1985 NMC has been accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). In 2001, the College was granted initial accreditation by WASC's Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities (ACSCU), making NMC one of only a handful of community colleges in the United States that offers a baccalaureate degree. This lone baccalaureate degree is a B.S. in Elementary Education.
