"Being a Maverick" encompasses the spirit of exploration, individuality and achievement both in and out of the classroom at UT Arlington. Critical thinking, collaborative problem-solving, and out-of-the-box thinking are mantras often heard in corporate meeting rooms, but at UT Arlington, these are skills faculty and researchers instill in our students both in the classroom and research labs. Our high level of research activity has led to UT Arlington’s classification as a Carnegie Research University and an unprecedented growth - in recent years, federally supported research has increased more than 200 percent. These research endeavors, along with a dedicated faculty, motivated students, and strategic location, enhance the University's partnership with area businesses and industry.

Our emphasis on excellence is best represented by the Honors College. One of six in Texas, the college is a supportive, educationally and culturally diverse community of faculty and student scholars. In addition to our recognized leadership in engineering, science and technology, we also offer one of the most comprehensive architecture curriculums in the state, numerous education degrees including the state’s largest superintendency program, the largest international MBA program in China, and outstanding programs in nursing, liberal arts, business administration, social work, and urban and public affairs. From glass-blowing to criminal justice, marketing research to computer science, Mavericks can choose to travel down one and only one path - the one they create for themselves.

A full activities calendar includes festivals, concerts, theatre performances, NCAA Division I athletics, lectures and other events throughout the year. Students are involved in nearly 300 student organizations ranging in photography to the nationally recognized Moot Court Association to the award-winning student newspaper, The Shorthorn.
