Community College of Philadelphia is an open admission, associate degree-granting institution that provides access to higher education for all who may benefit. Our programs of study in the liberal arts and sciences, career technologies and basic academic skills provide a coherent foundation for college transfer, employment and lifelong learning. The College serves Philadelphia by preparing its students to be informed and concerned citizens; active participants in the cultural life of the city; and able to meet the changing needs of business, industry and the professions. To help address broad economic, cultural and political concerns in the city and beyond, the College draws students from a wide range of ages and backgrounds, providing them with the programs and support they need to achieve these goals.

Campus Image
The College is the largest institution of higher education in Philadelphia and the sixth largest in Pennsylvania. It has served more than 500,000 individuals since the College opened its doors in 1965. More than half (68 percent) of graduates in transfer programs continue on to four-year institutions.


The College offers:

  • More than 70 career and transfer programs in Business, Humanities, Health Careers, Science and Technology and the Social and Behavioral Sciences
  • Day, evening and weekend classes for full-time and part-time students. Credit and noncredit courses at the Main Campus, three regional centers and more than 50 neighborhood and business locations
  • Academic and support services for disabled students and others
  • Customized courses for business and industry
  • Free credit courses for senior citizens

Community College of Philadelphia grants the following degrees:

  • Associate in Arts (A.A.)
  • Associate in Science (A.S.)
  • Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.)

In academic year 2001-2002, more than 42,000 students enrolled in credit and noncredit courses. Of these, approximately 20,700 were full-time equivalent students, and 28,400 students were enrolled in credit courses. The faculty consists of 420 full-time and more than 800 part-time members. Administrative and support staff account for approximately 430 positions.

The Main Campus of Community College of Philadelphia is conveniently located in the center of the city on a 14-acre complex at 1700 Spring Garden Street. Other locations include:
