East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania

Established in 1893, East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania was founded as a Normal School. The institution changed its name in 1927 to East Stroudsburg State Teachers College and again in 1960 to East Stroudsburg State College to reflect the addition of liberal arts and science curriculums. When the legislature created the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education in 1983, the institution became a university.

East Stroudsburg University is one of fourteen universities in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. Our current enrollment of 6,800 is continuing to grow and we attract students from 21 states and 23 foreign countries, making for a very diverse campus. ESU has nearly 100 student organizations to choose from. A new Student Recreation Center and Alumni Center are currently under construction and a major Science and Technology Center is in the planning stages.

Offering 60 undergraduate degree programs and graduate degrees in 19 areas of specialization, ESU recently developed the first undergraduate degree programs in the nation in computer security and industrial physics. Our biotechnology and chemical biotechnology programs are among a handful of such undergraduate degree programs in the country.

Our faculty consists of 246 full-time and 46 part-time teaching faculty, with 72% holding doctoral degrees. Most importantly, our faculty - not graduate assistants - teach all the classes here at ESU. The institution's 237-acre campus is located in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, approximately 75 miles west of New York City and 100 miles northeast of Philadelphia. Ideally situated in the scenic Pocono Mountains where skiing, biking, hiking, canoeing, climbing, snowshoeing and just about any other outdoor activity is within a few miles of the campus. Adjacent to the unspoiled Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, the surrounding community offers options for suburban, small city or country living.

Accreditations: Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools; National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE); Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP); Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH); National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC); National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA); American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA). Programs have been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, State Board of Nursing, and the American Chemical Society.

East Stroudsburg University offers competitive salaries and excellent benefits.
