Ithaca College

ITHACA COLLEGE: A PREFERRED EMPLOYER

Ithaca College is a private residential college, located in the scenic Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. Coeducational and nonsectarian, the College is an internationally known and respected institution with approximately 6,000 undergraduate and 400 graduate students, who come to Ithaca from nearly every state and more than 60 countries. The curriculum provides more than 2,000 courses in nearly 100 undergraduate degree programs and 25 graduate programs available through the College's five schools. While the breadth of its curriculum is normally found only at larger universities, Ithaca holds fast to its tradition of close, personal instruction (12:1 student-faculty ratio). Approximately 70 percent of undergraduates reside on campus.

From its founding in 1892 as the Ithaca Conservatory of Music, Ithaca has had a distinctive and distinguished history of interweaving the threads of liberal and professional education. The liberal arts offerings of its largest school, Humanities and Sciences, are integrated throughout the programs of study in each of its four professional schools: Business, Communications, Health Sciences and Human Performance, and Music. Courses and programs are also available in the Division of Interdisciplinary and International Studies which are designed to expose students to a wide range of ideas and experiences which allow them to take advantage of Ithaca’s wealth of academic opportunities across disciplinary boundaries.

Study abroad opportunities are available at the Ithaca College London Center, through the Walkabout Down Under program in Australia, as well as in over 20 other countries with affiliated programs across the globe. In addition, the Communications Program in Los Angeles, the Gerontology Institute, the Center for the Study of Culture, Race, and Ethnicity, and a number of combined programs with other colleges and universities, offer opportunities for students to enhance their educational and professional experiences. One measure of the value of an Ithaca College education is that 97% of its students report that they are either employed or attending graduate school within a year of graduation.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Ithaca students pursue a variety of interests outside the classroom, including extensive opportunities for internships and other experiential programs. There are more than 300 recognized student organizations, including performing, social, service, academic, and sports clubs. The College’s intercollegiate athletics program, featuring 12 men's and 13 women's teams, is one of the most successful in Division III of the NCAA. Entertainment and education are provided by the wide variety of concerts and recitals, theater productions, and lectures—most of them free of charge—given by students, faculty, and visitors throughout the school year.

THE CAMPUS

Ithaca’s modern campus is the result of a remarkable transformation begun in 1960, when the College moved from Victorian buildings scattered throughout the downtown area to a hill just south of the city, overlooking Cayuga Lake. There are 24 academic and administrative buildings, 26 residence halls, and 2 apartment complexes. Facilities—many of which have been built or completely renovated within the past five to ten years—include a campus center, fitness center, center for the performing arts, library, art gallery, speech/hearing and physical/occupational therapy clinics, observatory, gerontology institute, computer labs, and student-run television and radio stations.
