Milton Hershey School: Opening new doors for children in need
Thanks to the generosity of famous chocolate maker Milton S. Hershey and his wife, Catherine Hershey, Milton Hershey School has been helping children from families of low income and social need become productive, successful citizens for more than 90 years. MHS is a residential school that provides a pre-K through 12th-grade education program and a caring, family-like home setting free of charge to children who meet admission requirements.

The strong, comprehensive educational program at Milton Hershey School emphasizes applied and hands-on learning within a supportive, secure, and healthy home-life surrounding. Students at all levels benefit from the attention and support they receive in small classes averaging 15 students.

The standards-based MHS curriculum focuses on preparing students for success after graduation. Activities are designed to engage children in discovering potential careers they will find enjoyable, challenging, and stimulating. This educational approach helps MHS students gain the knowledge, practical and personal skills, and competencies needed for continued study, career success, and ultimately, a fulfilling life.

About 1,300 students attend MHS today. The student body is racially diverse and has about an equal number of boys and girls. About 40 percent of students have a sibling at the School. More than 70 percent of the students are from Pennsylvania.

At MHS, staff and students at MHS are committed to a set of core values — The Milton Hershey Way. Those values are: integrity, positive spirit, mutual respect, and commitment to mission.
