Far more benign and sweet-natured than its outrageously raunchy premise would suggest, Sleeping Dogs Lie is an innocuous, mildly enjoyable comedy written and directed, rather improbably, by none other than comic Bobcat Goldthwait. There's mercifully scant trace of Goldthwait's obnoxious persona in the film, which received a surprisingly favorable reception at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize (losing to Quinceanera).
