Hey Trym!
I think I saw your new kit all cased up at Plastic Head at the weekend when I was over there rehearsing and I remembered you mentioning on here that your new kit was coming soon....
Can you give us the specs on your new Premier kit? _________________ Premier / Paiste / ProMark / Pearl

That was just a kit for the Zyklon tour we just did.
I am still waiting for my Premier kit, and actually not sure how it looks
The specs are however:
20" kicks
8-10-12-14" power toms
16-18" floor |

Power toms are shorter toms than the "normal" size.
Instead of ex 12"x10" they are 12"x8".
You might think this will be a thin sounding tom, with low volume, but its actually opposite!
There is something happening when the volume in a tom is to big. Take a regular 14"x12" tom, and the sound inside will reflect and turn back inside, and cause the sound vibration to work against each other. And the results of sound waves hitting sound waves, is less volume and power...Thats why the short toms are called power toms |

hahaha that actually makes a lot of sense . Do the power toms end up being a higher pitch than regular toms would be? |

Im getting the Premier Series Maple Classic Un-Supported
Premium 6 ply North American Maple
This will be in Rosewood Lacquer finish, but I asked to make it darker than the "normal" finish.
The pitch is the same as standard, but with more low deep tone. |

That is some really good information... that will most likely solve my "my toms sound too tinny" problem... I never knew this. Thanks, man!!! _________________

You can also try different heads on the toms as that could be a cheaper solution to you problem.
I use the Remo Emperor Ambasador suede coated on my drums, but you can also use Emperor clear or some other powerful heads from Evans etc. Coated heads make less vibration and "overtones" on toms that are "singing" to much. But usually moon-gel is best way to kill that problem.
Heads like Pinstripe give less power but last longer than 1 and 2 layer heads. If you can take one of your toms to the music store you use, and try different heads, you will hear what is best for your kit. |

the premier website lists the (12") tom sizes like this
12" x 08" Standard Tom
12" x 09" Quick Tom
12" x 10" Power Tom
the don't seem to have any info regarding this... I don't know if it's all mislabeled or what, but I'm kind of confused now after Trym said that the power toms are the short ones. |
